Big Ass Boombox Festival 2014 Recap

Do you love music festivals? Do you love free stuff? Then the Big Ass Boombox Festival is totally for you! January 3rd and 4th 2014 marks the first ever BAB Festival in Seattle at The Crocodile and Rendezvous (it started out in Portland)! The BAB aims to highlight rising artists and bring them to potential fans. With nearly 40 bands and 10 writers this year, you were bound to discover some new favorite artists all for the great price of FREE.99!

Here’s a rundown of some of the standout bands at the festival (I only attended a part of Jan. 4th’s show, so be sure to check out the rest of the lineup!). Check them out and support the locals!

Branden Daniel and the Chics – These guys are garage-rock with a tinge of punk and 80’s alternative magic from Branden’s unique tone and great range.
For fans of: Human League, The Ramones

Charts – Surf-y guitar tones, catchy melodies, and raw-live studio recordings are what these guys do best. Indie-surf-rock is totes on the rise!
For fans of: Surfer Blood, Best Coast, Vampire Weekend

The West – 80’s dance and synth is alive and well in The West! These guys and gal put on such a high energy live show and are bound to get you dancin’!
For fans of: The B-52’s, Men Without Hats

The Ecstatics – These guys are totally loyal to their name — great stage energy and presence, contagious pop-rock tunes, bangin’ basslines, and upbeat vocals! Oh yeah, and they also covered One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful,” and I sang it with them on stage. It was pretty awesome.
For fans of: The Strokes, Hard-Fi, Phoenix

Julia Massey & The Five Finger Discount – Julia’s enchantingly beautiful voice and music reminds me of Imogen Heap, indie, yet worldly at the same time. A singer-songwriter that is definitely worth your time!
For fans of: Imogen Heap, Ingrid Michaelson

I definitely look forward to this awesome festival next year!
